How to Install Themes and Plugins in WordPress

WordPress themes and plugins allow you to customize your website’s design and functionality. This guide walks you through installing them from the dashboard or manually via ZIP upload.

1. Install a Theme from the Dashboard

Go to Appearance → Themes → Add New.

• Search for a theme (e.g., Astra, OceanWP, GeneratePress).
• Click “Install” then “Activate”.

You can find thousands of free themes on WordPress.org or purchase premium themes from ThemeForest.

2. Upload a Theme (ZIP File)

• Step 1: Download the theme (.zip) file to your computer.
• Step 2: Go to Appearance → Themes → Add New → Upload Theme.
• Step 3: Select the ZIP file and click “Install Now”.
• Step 4: Activate the theme after installation.

3. Install Plugins

Go to Plugins → Add New.

• Popular plugins include:
  • Yoast SEO: Optimize your site for search engines.
  • LiteSpeed Cache: Speed up and cache your site.
  • Contact Form 7: Create custom contact forms.
  • Wordfence: Security and firewall protection.
• Click “Install” and then “Activate”.

4. Upload a Plugin (ZIP File)

• Navigate to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin.
• Upload the ZIP file and activate the plugin.

5. Keep Everything Updated

Regularly update themes and plugins to prevent security issues and maintain compatibility.

Note: Avoid installing too many plugins, as they can slow down your website. Keep only what you need.
